HOW TO PLAY

Night Rain is played with a 40-card deck — four suits (Moon, Star, Flame, Drop), each numbered 1 to 10. The goal is simple: be the first to play every card out of your hand. Five values carry a special effect, and two of them are drawn straight from the Noctuary Tarot’s Major Arcana.

1🌑1 — ECLIPSE: opponent’s turn is skipped, you go again
4🌩️4 — THE TOWER: both players’ hands are swapped
5🎡5 — WHEEL OF FORTUNE: fate decides who plays next
7🌧️7 — DOWNPOUR: opponent draws 2 cards and skips a turn
10🌕10 — FULL MOON: wild card, you pick the next suit

MATCHING

On your turn, play a card from your hand that shares either the suit OR the number with the top card of the discard pile. For example, if a Drop 6 is on top, you can play any Drop, or any 6. Nothing fits? Draw one card from the deck and your turn passes to your opponent — you keep the drawn card for your next turn.

1 — ECLIPSE

Playing a 1 covers the table in an Eclipse: your opponent’s next turn is skipped entirely and play returns straight to you, as if you played twice in a row.

4 — THE TOWER

A 4 is The Tower from the Major Arcana — a sudden upheaval that changes the shape of the game. The moment you play it, your hand and your opponent’s hand are swapped completely. If The Tower happens to be the very last card in your hand, you win immediately and the swap never happens.

5 — WHEEL OF FORTUNE

A 5 is the Wheel of Fortune. Once it’s played, fate flips a coin: there’s a fifty-fifty chance you go again, and an equal chance play passes to your opponent as usual. You never know which way the wheel will turn.

7 — DOWNPOUR

Playing a 7 sends the Downpour to your opponent: they must draw two cards and lose their turn — unless they play a 7 of their own, which sends it right back and adds two more cards on top.

10 — FULL MOON

A 10 is a Full Moon — the only card that can be played on anything, regardless of suit or number. After playing it, you choose which suit is active next.

Night Rain (Noční liják) is an original card game from the makers of Noctuary Tarot, built for anyone who enjoys quick, tactical shedding games — the kind of family card game played across many countries under many different names. Night Rain has that same easy-to-learn, hard-to-put-down spirit, with its own four-suit deck and its own set of special cards, two of which — The Tower and Wheel of Fortune — are drawn directly from the tarot’s Major Arcana.
